Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.
The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 14 of NCHSAA competition are Meredith Wike from Alexander Central and Jayden Jones from Independence High School.
Wike, a sophomore forward for Alexander Central, averaged 29 points, shot 50 percent from the floor and made 16-of-18 at the free throw line in wins over North Iredell and Central Davidson last week. She set a new career high with 31 points against Central Davidson, to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jones, a sophomore running back for Independence, added another strong performance to his already impressive playoff resume last week in the Patriots win against Butler. He added 174 rushing yards on 23 carriers in Round Four to go with the five touchdowns he scored in the second and third rounds.
