Wittenburg To Guide Football Program At Draughn

VALDESE—Allen Wittenburg has been named the new head football coach at Draughn High School, according to various media reports including the Hickory Daily Record.

The Burke County Board of Education has approved the appointment. Wittenburg is only the second head football coach in the young school’s history and will take over for Scott Lambert.

Wittenburg has served the last two years as defensive coordinator at Patton in Burke County. He is the son of Larry Wittenburg, who was a long time coach at Hickory High School, first as an assistant under NCHSAA Hall of Fame coach Frank Barger and then as head coach.

Wittenburg, age 40, is a graduate of Hickory High and Appalachian State. He has also served on the coaching staffs at Fred T. Foard and Hickory.
