Pisgah Softball Coaches Retiring

CANTON—Pisgah High School’s softball coaching staff will be very different next year, according to a report in The Asheville Citizen-Times.

Head coach Cyrena Goodwin has announced that she is retiring from coaching softball after 25 years at the Pisgah helm. She has earned more than 400 career victories in the sport and led Pisgah to a North Carolin High School Athletic Association state 2-A title in 2011.

Walt Leatherwood has been an assistant coach with the program for many years and in fact has coached with Goodwin for 24 of those seasons. He, too, has announced that he is retiring from coaching softball.

The Asheville paper reported that Goodwin is not retiring from teaching and plans to continue coaching cross country in the fall.
