ATHLETES FROM CARRBORO, PROVIDENCE
EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Miah Araba of Carrboro and Josh Hiatt of Providence High School in Charlotte are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

A sophomore midfielder, Araba helped lead Carrboro to the NCHSAA state 2-A women’s soccer state championship last week.  She both goals  in overtime to lift the Jaguars to an exciting 2-1 victory over East Bend Forbush at Dail Soccer Stadium at North Carolina State.

Araba was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship and helped Carrboro finish an unbeaten season with a 21-0-1 record.

Hiatt helped propel Providence into the NCHSAA state 4-A baseball championship as the Panthers swept the Western Regional series over Matthews David Butler.

The senior shortstop was instrumental in the two-game sweep, as he struck out 10 and allowed six hits in pitching the opening game victory by an 8-4 score and also drove in two runs.  In the second game, he ripped a run-scoring double as Providence scored a 5-0 decision.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
