Roy Turner Retiring As Ashley Athletic Director

WILMINGTON—Roy Turner will be retiring as athletic director at Ashley High School in Wilmington, according to a report in the Wilmington Star-News.

Turner will step down from that role at the end of August. He has 36 years in education, according to the story.

Turner will be staying involved in high school athletics, however. During the May meeting of the North Carolina High School Athletic Directors, he was named as the regional supervisor for the Eastern Officials Association, working with basketball.

Prior to going to Ashley, Turner served as athletic director at both Southeast Guilford and Greensboro Dudley. He has also been a head baseball coach at the high school level.

Roy has served on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Leadership Training National Faculty, and has been very involved in the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association. He also has been an outstanding game official who has officiated both high school volleyball and basketball, including NCHSAA state basketball championships.  He was the NCHSAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2012.
