CARY– Winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards during the 2014-15 academic year were honored at a luncheon on Wednesday at the Embassy Suites.

Almost 30 of the winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants, along with coaches, administrators or family members, were on hand to receive their special medallions, a certificate, and a gift from Subway.

Former UNC basketball all-American Phil Ford, a product of Rocky Mount Senior High School in the NCHSAA, was the keynote speaker and congratulated the athletes on their achievements while also talking about his own experiences as a high school, collegiate and professional athlete.

Terry Zurowski, marketing director for Time Warner Cable News and Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, welcomed the attendees, who also heard from Tim Colburn of Subway, development manager for eastern North Carolina.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition were selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators. In its inaugural year, the program ran for approximately 30 weeks during the academic year, starting in the fall.

TWC SportsChannel typically announced the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and recognized the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients were also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
