BURLINGTON—Tommy Cole will be doing double duty once again at Burlington’s Walter Williams High School, according to a report in the Burlington Times-News.
Cole has been named the head coach of the men’s basketball team while retaining his duties guiding the women’s basketball program. He had coached both teams back during the 2011-12 season and has had both men’s and women’s teams in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championship games.
His 2011-12 women’s team at Williams lost to Harding in the state 3-A championship contest and his 1996 men’s team won the NCHSAA championship.
Cole is a graduate of Walter Williams, where he was a standout athlete, and he coached the men’s team there for a total of 20 seasons, rolling up a reor of 355-181. He has a mark in 12 years with the womne’s program of 233-83.
He also coached the Graham men’s team for four years in the 1980’s.
Cole has been serving as a substitute teacher at the school on a regular basis after stepping down from his full-time teaching role several years ago.
