BEAUFORT—East Carteret High School has had one of the top 1-A men’s basketball teams in North Carolina the last few years, and one of their players has earned a spot in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book.
Sam Johnson is one of the outstanding long-range shooters that program has had and he finished his East Carteret career with 297 made three-pointers. That included 74 during his sophomore season, 118 as a junior and 105 as a senior for the 297 total.
That total is good for third place on the all-time NCHSAA list for three-pointers, with the list headed by Akeem Richmond, who knocked in 448 during his career at Southern Lee.
Our thanks to East Carteret head coach Billy Anderson for providing the documentation to make the entry in the Record Book.
