Mount Pleasant Workhorse Running Back Makes Record Book

MOUNT PLEASANT—A workhorse running back for Mount Pleasant High School earned a performance listing in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book for his play last week.

Cody Reece carried the football a whopping 51 times for 286 yards and three touchdowns to help lift his team to a 35-24 victory over Cox Mill. It was also the 100th victory for Mount Pleasant coach Mike Johns.

Reece’s total of 51 carries is the fourth most in a single game recorded in the Record Book.  Last year he carried the ball a total of 457 times during the season, which is the second most in single-season history.

The single-game record for carries is 57, set by Bernard Williams of St. Pauls against West Bladen in 2007.

Congratulations to Cody Reece, and our thanks to Langston Wertz of the Charlotte Observer for documenting the achievement.
