This Day In NCHSAA History

September 15, 1987

            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association officially began its intern program. Literally hundreds of college undergraduate and graduate students have volunteered at the NCHSAA over the years. Rick Strunk, at that time the associate executive director, initiated the program after working with interns at the collegiate level.

            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Mount Olive’s Steve Denning booted a record 87-yard punt against James Kenan in a 6-0 Mount Olive win victory.
