2024 Men’s Golf Championships Day 1 Results

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Men’s Golf Championships began on Monday at four different sites.

Defending champion Pinecrest leads the 4A Championship after the first round with a team score of 278, 10-under par. Green Hope is in second place at 5-under, and New Hanover is in third place at even par.  
 
On the individual leaderboard, Green Hope senior Jake Lewis fired a six-under 66 to lead by two strokes over teammate Jackson Bryce and Pinecrest’s Carson Bertagnole and Pete Myers. Bertagnole made an ace on the par-3 ninth on his way to posting his 68.
 
Defending champion Terry Sanford holds a two-stroke lead over J.H. Rose after the first round of the 3A Championships at Longleaf Golf and Country Club. The Bulldogs posted a team score of 6-under, 282, and were led by senior and defending champion Ethan Pascal’s 66. Teammate Thomas Horne posted a 3-under, 69.
 
Stuart Cramer is in third place on the team leaderboard and were led by Rich Wills, who posted a 5-under, 67. J.H. Rose’s Lake Williams also posted a 67 and the two are tied for second.
 
Pine Lake Prep leads the way at the 2A Championship at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe. The Pride holds a three-stroke lead over Seaforth. Salisbury and Newton-Conover are tied for third, 26 strokes behind Seaforth.
 
Seaforth Sophomore Ty Willoughby leads the individual championship after a first-round 67, giving him a three-shot cushion over Holden Rucker from Farmville Central, Aiden Penhall from Pine Lake Prep, and Chase’s Brock Reid, who are all tied for second. 
 
The defending champions Mitchell Mountaineers lead the 1A Championships at Seven Lakes Golf Club after posting a 315 on day one. Mount Airy is eight shots behind in second place, and Mountain Island Charter sits in third, with six strokes behind the Granite Bears. 
 
On the individual leaderboard, Christ the King’s Colin Ferrick leads by one over Mitchell’s Connor Warren, who is looking for his third straight 1A individual title. Ferrick carded an even-par 71 in round one.
