WEEK 36 | 2023-24 ORTHOCAROLINA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.

The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 36 of NCHSAA competition are Drew Hedgecoe from Terry Sanford High School and Amiya Winston from Lejeune High School.

Winston, a senior runner for the track and field team, won the 200-meter dash at the 1A East Regional last week and took second in the 100 meter. She was also a part of the 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams that took second and first, respectively. She ran the anchor leg of the 4×200 and that team broke a 38-year old school record with a time of 1:46.0.

Hedgecoe, a junior tennis player for the Bulldogs, won his third consecutive NCHSAA 3A individual state championship on Saturday at Burlington Tennis Center. He won the title match 6-2, 6-3 and only dropped three other games in the state tournament. Next year he will aim to become only the second tennis player in NCHSAA history to win four individual singles titles.
