2A WEST WOMEN’S REGIONAL FINAL RECAP: East Davidson edges R-S Central 49-43

EAST DAVIDSON SCRAPS WAY TO  49-43 VICTORY OVER R-S CENTRAL  

In a game dominated by half court play, East Davidson battled their way to a 49-43 victory over R-S Central in the 2A Women’s Western Regional Final.

The Golden Eagles and Hilltoppers combined for just 6 fast break points on the night. East Davidson edged the Hilltoppers 18-16 on points in the paint and 14-13 on second-chance points. The Eagles also held the edge on the boards with a 45-40 advantage.

Bayley Plummer, the NCHSAA record holder for shots blocked in a single game, scored 13 points and cleared 24 rebounds. She added three more blocks in the game.

Her teammate Madi Hallman pitched in 20 points to go along with three assists and four steals.

The Hilltoppers got a pair of double-doubles, with Te’ja Twitty getting a 14 point, 14 rebound afternoon and Kyra Davis putting in 16 points and 10 rebounds.

East Davidson will be making their second trip to a state title game in women’s basketball, their first return since their victory over Graham in 2008.
