CHAPEL HILL— Nick Jodway of Draughn High School and Haley Cashwell of Cape Fear High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Jodway, a Wildcats junior pitcher/centerfielder, struck out 19 in a no-hitter last Tuesday against Burns. Draughn won the game 1-0. Jodway pitched around six walks and an error to keep the host Bulldogs off the board throughout. Then on Thursday at home, Draughn beat Shelby 11-1 in run-rule fashion and the three-year starter walked twice, stole a base, scored and drove in a run.
Cashwell, also a junior, went 5 for 8 with one home run, 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored last week in games against EE Smith and Jack Britt, extending her consecutive game hit streak to 35 games and breaking the existing state record of 33 games. This is the third state softball record Haley has set in her career at Cape Fear High School.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
