East Davidson wrapped up a 22-5 2016 campaign for softball coach Amanda Akins. The Eagles dropped a third round game against Forbush 2-0 and saw their season come to a halt on Wednesday night. However, the season was particuarly notable for East Davidson at the plate.
The Eagles saw senior slugger Baylee Plummer pummel 10 home runs on the year, which places her name in the NCHSAA State Record Book in a tie for 18th most home runs in a season in state history. She finished up her career at East Davidson with a .415 batting average and 17 home runs total.
Plummer's ten homers helped East Davidson join the record book as a team this year, tying for 10th all time in team home runs hit with 26 on the year. Plummer's 10 go with juniors Sydney Bowles & Sarah Bowles four and three homer years respectively, along with five homers by sophomore Brooke Jones, senior Morgan Key's three dingers and a single home run by junior Allison Wike to compile the team total of 26. This mark puts them in a tie for tenth in state history as a team with Cape Fear's 2006 squad and the 2007 East Surry team.
