GREENSBORO – The NCHSAA hosted the annual 3A Track and Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of NC A&T State University. The Jacksonville men captured the 3A team championship with 45 points, edging Southern Guilford who finished with 42 points. The Women's Championship went to Eastern Guilford with 58 points, 11 points clear of second place Cleveland.
Anna Vess from A.C. Reynolds won three individual events. She took the 1600 Meter with a time of 5:00.09, the 800 Meter in 2:13.28, missing the classification record by 5 hundredths of a second, and the 3200 Meter in a time of 11:19.41.
Eastern Guilford's Taylor Henderson won the 200 Meter Dash in 24.40 and was the anchor leg of the victorious 4 X 200 Relay team which completed the distance in 1:41.59. Eastern's Tiana Taylor also contributed an event win in the Shot Put, throwing 39'07.75".
Jacksonville Men captured the team championship winning a single event, the 4 X 400 Relay with a time of 3:19.71. The relay team was comprised of Richard Fisher, Ryan Harrington, Rashwan Massey and anchored by Jazire Notice.
Bailey Frederick from Marvin Ridge set a new state record in the pole vault, clearing 16'01" which was one inch better than the previous state record.
Richlands 4 X 800 Men's Relay team set a new 3A record on their way to a first place finish with a time of 7:47.56. The team was anchored by Darius Futrell with Aaron Rand, Kevon Pascoe and R.J. Russell running legs. Russell also contributed an individual event victory winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 48.86.
Sun Valley's sprint relay team won two relays, the 4 X 200 and the 4 X 100. The quartet of Kadarius Lotharp, Daniel Thomas, Jeremiah Miller and Fabrice Funderburke took the 4 X 200 in 1:27.60 and the 4 X 100 in 41.75.
Noah Shore from Asheville was a two event winner individually as he won the 1600 Meter in 4:14.48. He also took the 800 Meter in 1:56.23.
