STUDENTS FROM LINCOLNTON & KINGS MOUNTAIN EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Sage Surratt of Lincolnton High School and Natalie Lutz of Kings Mountain High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Sage Surratt, senior wide receiver for Lincolnton, caught 7 passes for 225 yards and 5 touchdowns in Lincolnton's 48-0 win over Bunker Hill Friday night.  His touchdown catches covered 15, 26, 28, 7 and 59 yards.  Surratt, is now just 109 yards short of the career yardage record owned by Mohamed Massaquoi who played at Independence from 2001 to 2004. Last Tuesday, Surratt committed to play football at Harvard.

Lutz, a sophomore tennis player and golfer for Kings Mountain, went undefeated during the tennis season, losing only three total games over the course of the year. As the #1 player on the tennis team, she led Kings Mountain to their second straight undefeated regular season and a conference championship. On the golf course, she led the conference by 65 strokes going into the final match of the season, and finished seventh at this week’s NCHSAA 3A Western Regional Championship, firing an 81 on the day and qualifying for the State Championship.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
