LAGRANGE—North Lenoir High School recently inducted four into the North Lenoir High School Sports Hall of Fame.

They were recognized at halftime of a football game at North Lenoir, according to a report in the Kinston Free Press.

The group includes Paul Dunn III, Darryl Goff, Wayne Jackson, and Jason Roach.

Dunn was an outstanding basketball coach at North Lenoir after leading the Hawks into the NCHSAA Eastern Regionals as a player during his junior and senior seasons, in 1993 and ’94. He played collegiately at Mount Olive, where he lettered four times.

Goff was a two-time NCHSAA state champion in wrestling in 1993 and ’94 who was unbeaten his senior year and won 231 matches as a high school wrestler. Goff, who works at Kinston Neuse Corporation, was also a successful assistant wrestling coach at North Lenoir, Kinston and Ayden-Grifton.

Jackson was an excellent three-sport athlete at North, graduating in 1979, who played football at Chowan College when it was a junior college and later graduated from Catawba. He coached at North Pitt, Wallace-Rose Hill, Greene Central and East Duplin before becoming the North Lenoir head coach in 1999.

His team won eight games during the 2003 season, the most in school history, and made the playoffs five consecutive years. He resigned as head coach in 2009 and now is an assistant again at East Duplin.

Roach is a former North Lenoir baseball star who was drafted by the New York Mets in the 20th round in 1997. He played 11 years in the minor leagues and also pitched in the majors. Before entering the professional ranks, he was a standout at UNC-Wilmington.
