CHAPEL HILL— The golf trio of Megan Kanaby, Hannah Rose Bruxvoort and Hailey Freedman from Cardinal Gibbons High School and Hayden Diaz from Gray’s Creek High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Kanaby, Bruxvoort and Freedman led Gibbons to the 2017 Women’s Golf Team State Championship. The three tallied the all-time lowest three-player composite score at 454 in NCHSAA State Championships. Kanaby a junior placed third overall with a two-day total of 149, senior Burxvoort placed fifth with a two-day total of 150 and senior Freedman finished tenth with a two-day total of 156.
Diaz, a junior on the Bears men’s soccer team was a star during the Patriot Athletic Conference tournament. In three games, Diaz scored 10 goals including the only goals in Gray’s Creek 3-0 win over Pine Forest in the championship game. During the tournament, he also tallied two assists and was named the tournament MVP.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year on April 28th. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
