NEWTON—Fred T. Foard High School has named Shania Johnson as the head coach of its softball program, according to media reports in the Hickory Daily Record as well as The Observer-News-Enterprise.

Johnson is a former Fred T. Foard player who stayed in Catawba County for her collegiate career, playing for Lenoir-Rhyne University and graduating in May. She will replace David Shubert as head coach, who has retired from coaching but remains on the faculty at Foard.

She graduated from Foard in 2009 and was a four-year player at LRU, including a team that went 37-16 during her senior season.
