GARRY ALLMON, ADAM MILLS AND ROBBIE BROUGHTON RECEIVE INAUGURAL MOE’S HOMETOWN HERO AWARDS

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Moe’s Southwest Grill locations in the Triangle, in conjunction with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), has selected Garry Allmon from East Wake High School in Zebulon, N.C., Adam Mills of Wakefield High School in Raleigh, N.C., and Robbie Broughton from Clayton High School in Clayton, N.C., as the first recipients of the Moe’s Hometown Hero awards.

The Moe’s Hometown Hero program offers a platform through which school administrators and personnel, parents, students, and school community members can nominate deserving individuals for special recognition on a monthly basis during the school year. Individuals can be nominated as a Moe’s Hometown Hero for serving as a community role model and making a difference in the lives of the students and school, exhibiting sound citizenship and community service, excelling in academics/athletes (students) and/or positively impacting their peers. Currently, this new platform is available to a targeted group of NCHSAA member high schools located within the Triangle area. Each recipient receives a commemorative award and a Moe’s Southwest Grill gift card.

Recipient Garry Allmon teaches Auto Tech at East Wake High School, coaches women’s tennis and swimming, and is an assistant coach for the men’s golf team. He also serves as the huddle leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and has been instrumental in bringing students across Wake County together through FCA activities. His Auto Tech classes provide labor to repair teachers’ and students’ cars, thus reducing expensive repairs. “He teaches students life skills so they will be career-ready upon graduation,” explains school staff member Teressa Allmon. “He is very caring for all his students and provides snacks, lunch and even money to those that come to school hungry.”

Currently a teacher and boys’ basketball coach at Wakefield High School, Adam Mills volunteers as an assistant coach for both the junior varsity and varsity boys’ teams, drives activity buses throughout the year for various sports while managing a business and spending time with his wife and child. Garrett Stevens, head boys’ basketball coach says, “[Adam] is a great role model for our students and athletes, and his hard work and dedication often go unnoticed. He especially cares about our basketball players and pushes them to be better each day. He definitely deserves recognition as someone who has a positive impact in our community and someone our young people are able to learn from, count on, and strive to be.”

The third recipient of the January 2018 Moe’s Hometown Hero awards is Clayton High School’s School Resource Officer (SRO), Robbie Broughton. A Clayton High School alum, Officer Broughton is a Deputy with the Johnston County Sherriff’s department and has served as SRO for five years at Clayton High. According to the athletic director, Jimmy Williams, “Officer Broughton has a strong presence and is a tremendous relationship builder in the school and community and a fixture at every athletic event, both home and away. He gives freely of his time over and beyond what is required and is highly respected by his peers and the faculty here at Clayton.”

"The North Carolina High School Athletic Association, in conjunction with Moe’s Southwest Grill of the Triangle, is proud to honor and recognize Garry Allmon, Adam Mills and Robbie Broughton with the January 2018 Moe’s Hometown Hero awards,” said Que Tucker, commissioner of the NCHSAA. “Each of these winners has demonstrated a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected to positively impact the lives of the students and their respective communities. It is their dedication to their students and communities that truly make them Hometown Heroes."

“We are honored to recognize these outstanding leaders in our communities,” said Jennifer Wade, franchisee and president of the Moe’s Southwest Grill® Triangle Co-op. “We commend them on their continued dedication and leadership to the schools they support. Moe’s is proud to support the Hometown Hero’s program, and we look forward to honoring more recipients throughout the year.”
