CHAPEL HILL— Nicole Barnes of T.W. Andrews High School and Noah Henderson of Western Alamance High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
Each week, two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations submitted by media and school administrators.
Barnes, a senior on the Raiders’ Indoor Track & Field team, had a stellar performance at the 1A/2A Indoor Track & Field State Championships on Saturday. She took 1st place in the 55m dash, 55m hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Barnes broke the state record in the 55m dash. The 40 points she scored individually helped lead T.W. Andrews’ Women’s Indoor Track & Field to their second-ever, and back-to-back 1A/2A Women’s Indoor Track & Field State title. Barnes was named the Most Outstanding Performer for her performances in the championship meet.
Henderson, a junior on the Western Alamance Men’s Swimming & Diving team, was awarded Most Outstanding Performer at the 3A Swimming & Diving State Championships this past weekend. He took home 1st place in both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Henderson won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.58, which is a state record across all classifications.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year on April 28th. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m. through the online form that can be found here.
