FORMER NCHSAA PLAYER MAKES BIG LEAGUE DEBUT

        Former Charles B. Aycock High School star Rob Wooten made his major league debut last weekend for the Milwaukee Brewers.

        According to the Goldsboro News-Argus, the Fremont native pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless relief for the Brewers against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, a game that ended with the Rockies on top 8-3.

        Wooten was called up to the Milwaukee club from Nashville, the Brewers’ AAA farm club. He posted a 2.94 ERA and was credited with 20 saves as the Nashville closer and was chosen to play in the Pacific Coast League all-star game.

        Wooten has been in professional baseball since 2008. He was Aycock’s Most Valuable Player as a senior and was a standout for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, setting an NCAA record at the time for appearances with 47 in the 2007 season. He played in the College World Series on three occasions.
