CHAPEL HILL—A total of 59 student-athletes from North Carolina High School Athletic Association member schools were honored for their outstanding performances during the season as recipients of the Performance of the Week Award recognition on Saturday, April 27th. This weekly award was designed to recognize outstanding accomplishments by student-athletes nominated by media representatives and school administrators spanning from August 27th through April 13th. Weekly recipients were recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages.
Student-athletes, alongside family members, coaches, and athletic directors, flocked to the Embassy Suites Cary to enjoy an afternoon of celebration and recognition. Karen DeHart, NCHSAA Associate Commissioner administered the program.
Those in attendance had the opportunity to meet and hear from former NC State Women’s Basketball standout, Connie Rogers-Newcome, a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville, NC.
Each week throughout the school year, a selection committee chose one male and one female athlete from submitted nominations based upon their respective performances in the prior week.
