ALBEMARLE — Albemarle High School athletic director Joanne Helsey has announced Seth Smith has been named the new head football coach at Albemarle, according to a release by the school.
Smith replaces Danny Akins who announced his move to Southwestern Randolph in early April.
Smith previously served as Akins’ assistant and offensive coordinator. He has coached at Albemarle for 17 years and began his career at AHS under Coach Jack Gaster, continued under Baxter Morris and then Akins.
Smith has also served as an assistant baseball coach and track coach while at Albemarle. Smith is excited about the coming season and plans to continue the program working with his established staff of assistants.
