WEEK 27 | Students from Western Alamance and Mitchell Earn Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Taylor Apple from Western Alamance High School and Zeus Ponder from Mitchell High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators. 

Apple, a freshman on the Western Alamance softball team, recorded a 3-0 record on the mound for the week.  On Tuesday the Warrior’s pitcher struck out 13 and hit a home run to lead Western Alamance to a 1-0 win over Rockingham County.  Next up for Apple was a 9-inning, 21 strikeouts, complete-game performance in a 1-0 win against Holly Springs.  She wrapped up the week striking out 9 in a win over Northeast Guilford.

Ponder, a senior on the Mitchell baseball team, pitched 6 innings against Owen striking out 16 while only allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.  Ponder also got it done at the plate hitting a home run as Mitchell beat Owen by a score of 6-1.
