NEWLAND—Avery County High School women’s basketball coach Missy Lyons has resigned, according to a report in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Lyons, who will plan to stay at the school as a teacher, coached the Avery program for 11 years. The Vikings were 21-8 a year ago and went to the third round of the playoffs.

Avery’s volleyball and softball coach Jimmy Tilley has also decided to resign his coaching positions at the end of the academic year.
