CHARLOTTE— South Mecklenburg High School’s baseball team recently raised almost $5,000 for a worthy cause, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The baseball team raised $4,635 in the program’s second YMCA Miracle League fundraiser. The check was presented to Paul Petr, University City YMCA executive director, before a recent South Mecklenburg game against Myers Park.
The YMCA Miracle League at the University City YMCA is a baseball league for children with special needs. Games are played on a rubberized turf field that is handicap accessible. The league played its first season last fall and this spring’s season will start in mid-April..
The fundraiser included junior varsity and varsity baseball games, an alumni game, a home run derby, a silent auction and a bake sale.
South Mecklenburg raised about $3,200 for the league last year.
