SILER CITY— Another good news story has emerged in a North Carolina High School Athletic Association sporting event.
Siler City Country Club was the site of the 2-A Mideast Regional golf tournament, from which teams and individuals could qualify to the state championships. Two teammates from Granville Central High School wound up in a playoff for the last individual spot from the regional to the state event.
Sophomore Jonathan Price and senior Michael Pope each shot 81 and had to go to a playoff. Pope three-putted the first playoff hole, leaving Price with a six-inch tap-in putt to earn par and win the playoff.
However, Price picked up his ball and disqualified himself so that his friend and senior teammate could advance to the state tournament.
Price was medalist in the Granville Cup earlier in the season in a tournament featuring the three Granville County schools, shooting a 74. His parents, Henry and Marie Price, said, “We are so proud of our son. He has made his mark at the 2A Mid-East Regional for showing that a true winner is one who wins with the heart and knows what the right thing to do is.”
