RALEIGH—Athens Drive High School has a change in its head football coaching position for the remainder of the season, according to various media reports including the Raleigh News and Observer.

Chris Martin announced that he was stepping down as head coach on Friday, a day after his team lost to Greensboro Grimsley 44-7 to drop to 0-3 on the season.  Martin, who still teaches at the school, was in his fourth season as head coach.

Veteran assistant coach Jimmy Ray and former Broughton head coach Chris Martin (no relation to the former Athens Drive head coach by the smae name), who was also on the Athens Drive staff, will serve as co-interim head coaches for the remainder of the season.

Ray will direct the team’s offense while Martin will head up the defense.  Ray has been on the staff since 1999 and graduated from Athens in 1993, while interim coach Martin was the head coach at Broughton from 2004 through ’12.
