Bandys Names New Head Football Coach

CATAWBA— Randy Lowman of Bandys High School is retiring as head football coach and athletic director at the end of December, but the Catawba County school didn’t have to go far to name his successor.

According to various media reports, including the Hickory Daily Record, Trent Lowman, Randy’s youngest son, has been named the Bandys head coach. Trent played quarterback for his dad at Bandys and participated in the Shrine Bowl. He went on to play at Lenoir-Rhyne University and then to coach at LRU as an assistant from 2005-07.

Trent Lowman has been the defensive coordinator at Bandys for the past four years. Lowman will replace his father, who coached at Bandys for 26 seasons and guided the Trojanas to 209 victories during that stretch. Trent is only the fifth head football coach at the school since 1964.
