Bandys Women’s Basketball Coach Stepping Down

BETH QUEEN TO STEP DOWN AS BANDYS COACH

CATAWBA — Veteran women’s basketball coach Beth Queen is stepping down as head coach at Bandys High School in Catawba County, according to the Hickory Daily Record.

Queen, the Trojans’ head basketball coach for the past six seasons, coached for 12 years overall in two different tenures at her alma mater. She coached Bandys to 103 wins over six seasons in her first stint as head coach and to another 128 victories since taking over the second time in 2006. Her team went to the Western Regional finals this season.

She was an outstanding high school basketball player at Bandys, where she played for the late Mike Matheson, who has been named to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. She was a key player on the Trojans’ state 2-A championship team in 1982, and went on to play at Appalachian State.
