BOB LEWIS RETURNS TO CLINTON
AS HEAD COACH FOR THIRD STINT
CLINTON – Bob Lewis, who led Clinton High School to four state football championships, is returning for a third time as the school’s football coach.
The Clinton Board of Education voted to re-hire Lewis as coach. He spent last season as an assistant coach on the staff of interim coach Jeff Sawvel. Lewis’ hiring was confirmed by Clinton principal Ron Bean.
Lewis won state titles at Clinton in 1990, 1996, 1997 and 2001. His first state title came when he was at East Bladen High School in 1973. He also won one N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association state championship as coach at Harrells Christian Academy.
Lewis coached at Clinton from 1988-2001. He retired for one season, then returned one more season as coach before going to Harrells for three years and Whiteville for two. He returned to Clinton as an assistant coach last fall.
