Butler Coach, Player In Line For National Honors

CHARLOTTE—David Butler High School is in line for a couple of national honors, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Butler football coach Brian Hales is a finalist for the Army All-America Bowl national coach of the year. Hales, in his second year as head coach, led the Bulldogs to a perfect 15-0 season.

Butler won the NCHSAA 4-AA state championship with a convincing 56-28 win over Fayetteville Britt in the championship game at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

Hales is one of five finalists for the national award. Butler linebacker Peter Kalambayi is also a finalist for a national award. The Stanford recruit is one of five players up for the high school linebacker of the year award, named for Dick Butkus.

The national coach of the year will be announced during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl next month in San Antonio.
