January 11, 2013

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, former West Montgomery High School football coach James Garmon died at the age of 83.  A graduate of Catawba College, Garmon taught at Apex for 11 years and then coached at West Montgomery for 22 seasons.

January 11, 2002

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Brittany Boyce of East Rutherford connected on nine three-point field goals in a women’s basketball game against West Lincoln.  Boyce’s performance was just two three-pointers short of the NCHSAA record.

January 11, 2005

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Ty Carter of Bessemer City knocked in 14 three-point field goals in a men’s basketball game against Polk County to set the single-game three-point mark in men’s basketball.  Carter led Bessemer City to a 73-48 victory.
