Cherryville Star Goes For 51 In NCHSAA Playoff Game

       CHERRYVILLE– Cherryville High School basketball standout Kenny Poston broke a school record on Monday night in a North Carolina HIgh School Athletic Association playoff game, according to the Gaston Gazette.

       The senior guard knocked in nine three-pointers and and poured in a school-record 51 points as the Ironmen topped Mitchell 116-88. Poston hit 11 of 23 shots from the floor and made 20 of 23 foul shots to go with 13 rebounds and five assists.

      Interestingly enough, Kenny's dad was also an outstanding high school player who helped lead Cherryville to the NCHSAA 2-A basketball state championship in 1985.  Poston went on to play for Jim Valvano at N.C. State University.

      Cherryville is the top seed in the 1-A Western bracket this year and sports a 24-2 record.

      The Gazette reported that Cherryville attempted 46 three-pointers on the night and made 19.
