Coaches Resign From Charlotte-Area Positions

CHARLOTTE—A pair of long-time high school basketball coaches in the Charlotte area have resigned their posts, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.

Ty Baumgardner of Olympic and Donald Kirby of Butler have stepped down.

Baumgardner led Olympic to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A men’s basketball championship in 2013 and guided his teams to seven conference championships in 10 years. Baumgardner will become the head coach at Collins Hill High School in Georgia.

Kirby has coached at Butler for three seasons after serving as head coach at West Mecklenburg from 2005 to 2011. Before that he was an assistant coach at Butler.

Kirby, who led his teams to two conference tournament titles in three years, plans to stay at Butler as a health and physical education teacher.
