COMPLIANCE CORNER

a quick question concerning rules, regulations and policies of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association

Q:I am a senior at an NCHSAA member school and need only four credits to graduate.  Can I take two block courses in the fall and two in the spring?

A: The literal answer to that question is yes, in terms of meeting graduation requirements, but a student who does that will not be eligible to participate in athletics in the spring because he or she will not have passed a minimum load (defined as three courses on the block).  Any time that a student plans to take fewer than the number of courses for the minimum load, the repercussions for eligibility have to be considered.

If the question is asked, can I take two courses in the fall and two in the spring and still participate in a spring sport, the answer is no.
