COMPLIANCE CORNER

a quick question concerning rules, regulations and policies of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association

Q: May ineligible participants work out with the team during the summer?

A: The answer is yes, with one stipulation.  Ineligible players are not allowed to participate in off-season skill development sessions during the year.  However, during the summer they can participate in summer workouts if he or she has an up-to-date physical.  Keep in mind that a student-athlete in that situation would not be able to start fall practice in August unless that ineligibility is taken care of (for instance, if the student was academically ineligible but took care of that before the start of fall practice by completing summer school or an appropriate on-line course and was now academically eligible).
