Davie Football Coach Headed To South Carolina

DAVIE FOOTBALL COACH HEADING TO SOUTH CAROLINA

MOCKSVILLE—Doug Illing, who has had tremendous success as head football coach at Davie County, is taking a position in South Carolina, according to various media reports including the Winston-Salem Journal.

He is headed to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he will be the head football coach at Socastee High School.

Illing came to Davie in 1998 after ine years as an assistant coach at R.J. Reynolds. While at the War Eagle helm, Illing guided his team to the NCHSAA 4-A state championship game in 2010 and several other deep runs in the postseason. Davie posted a 9-4 record during the 2012 campaign.

Illing is a native of Summerville, S.C. He attended Lees-McRae College and then transferred to Wake Forest, where he was a starting kicker during his junior and senior years.
