Davie Names New Head Football Coach

MOCKSVILLE—Longtime assistant coach Devore Holman has been named the new head football coach at Davie County High School, according to various media reports including the Winston-Salem Journal.

Holman replaces Doug Illing, who resigned to take on the head coaching responsibilities at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Holman, 46, worked with Illing for 15 years and has been on the staff at Davie since 1991, working with four different head coaches.  For the last 14 years he has served as defensive coordinator.

The new coach is a 1984 Davie graduate who attended Winston-Salem State University. After working for a while as a non-faculty coach, Devore became an in-school suspension teacher in 1996.
