            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, former North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors president Bennie Higgins died at the age of 67. He was principal at Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro for 14 years and then worked in the Guilford County Schools central office until his retirement on March 31, 1999.
