May 2, 1996

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Shea Ralph of Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville and Titcus Pettigrew of West Forsyth received the Pat Best Memorial Awards as the NCHSAA Athletes of the Year for the 1995-96 academic year. Ralph was one of the best women’s basketball players the state has ever produced, averaging 33 points per game for her career, but lettered in four sports in high school. Pettigrew excelled in football, basketball and track during his prep career and was the Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year in North Carolina for football.
