February 19, 1964

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, the Boone Trail and Angier High School men’s basketball teams played the longest game in high school, college or professional basketball history, when Boone outlasted Angier 56-54 in 13 overtimes. Boone Trail’s Frankie Stewart played all 71 minutes and led all scorers with 29 and Johnny Gardner (Angier) dropped in 27. The game was held at Carter Gym on the campus of Campbell College.
