October 16, 2003

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Mike Hill of Harnett Central rushed for 461 yards and eight touchdowns in a single game leading the Trojans to a 62-28 victory over South Johnston. Hill became the third player in state history to rush for eight touchdowns, joining Hope Mills’ Donnie Davis (1960) and Swansboro’s Julius Pickett (1999). Both marks for single-game touchdowns and yardage are tops among NCHSAA regular season performances.

Jennifer Wiker of South Mecklenburg added another mark to her record-setting high school volleyball career by nailing 42 kills in a 3-1 victory over Matthews David Butler.
