On this day on history in the NCHSAA, Wilson’s Fike High School opened defense of its North Carolina High School Athletic Association state football championship but was shut out by Winston-Salem RJ. Reynolds 9-0. However, Fike rebounded under head coach Henry Trevathan and went on to win the ’68 crown.
