            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, veteran head men's basketball coach Marc Payne of Ashe County High School announced his retirement from coaching for health reasons. A former member of the NCHSAA Board of Directors, Payne had been a head coach at the high school level for 37 years with a career mark of 574-383.
