December 7, 1990

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, quarterback Heath Shuler of Swain County completed 14 of 20 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Maroon Devils to their third consecutive NCHSAA state football championship. Swain downed Roanoke by a score of 40-14 at Kenan Stadium to capture the 1-A crown and finish a 13-2 season.
