DEFENDING CHAMPION EMREY HAS ONE-SHOT LEAD,
ARDREY KELL ATOP TEAM STANDINGS IN NCHSAA 4-A WOMEN’S GOLF
FOXFIRE VILLAGE – Defending individual champion Allison Emrey of Charlotte Ardrey Kell fired a two-under par 71 to take a one-shot lead on Monday after the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s golf championships at the West Course at Foxfire Golf and Country Club.
The course is set at par 73 and a 5,630-yard layout for the championship.
Emrey, a junior, is one shot ahead of Lizzie Bundy of Clayton and North Mecklenburg’s Katie Kirk, who each carded one-under 72. Katherine Perry of Raleigh Athens Drive shot even par and is two shots off the pace.
Emrey helped propel Kell into the top spot in the team standings with a team total of 226, eight shots ahead of defending team champion Raleigh Athens Drive is. Pfafftown Ronald Reagan and Greensboro Grimsley are tied for third at 252, 26 shots back.
The best three scores of a team count toward the team totals, and a total of 79 golfers and 13 teams are competing in the two-day, 36-hole event.
The final day of play is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 Tuesday morning.
