D.H. Conley Student-Athlete Drowns

        GREENVILLE– A Greenville teen and student-athlete at D.H. Conley High School drowned Saturday afternoon in a tragic accident at the Tar River.

       According to the Greenville Daily Reflector, Devantae Dortch, age 17, was with a group of friends swimming in the Tar River when he jumped into the river and did not resurface.  His body was found a little over two hours later in 23 feet of water. 

       Dortch had played football at D.H. Conley.

      According to the newspaper, following the report of Dortch’s death, Conley officials sent out an automated phone announcement to the student body. It said Pitt County Schools crisis team members will be at the school today and a mobile crisis team was available for anyone who needed to call a number on the message.
